Process analysis of heat treatment of spindle using medium frequency induction heating machine

The material of the spindle of the vertical machining center is 38CrMoA1A steel. The heat treatment technical requirements are: hardened layer depth ≥ 6.0mm, surface hardness ≥ 850HV, radial circular runout ≤ 0.03mm. In order to meet the above requirements, many manufacturers use medium frequency induction heating machines to heat treat spindles, the effect is good.

(1) Process flow. Forging - rough machining - quenching and tempering - fine turning - inner hole - high temperature aging - rough grinding - low temperature aging - ion nitriding - fine grinding.

(2) Heat treatment process

1) Conditioning. Quenching heating: 940℃, quenching oil. High temperature tempering: 650-690℃. Hardness is 248-280HBW.

2) High temperature aging. The heating temperature is 610℃, keep warm for 5-6.5h, and slowly cool in the furnace to below 350℃ and then come out of the furnace for air cooling.

3) Low temperature aging. The heating temperature is 160℃ and the holding time is 10h.

Many manufacturers use the above process for heat treatment. The surface hardness of the produced spindle is 950-1050HV, brittleness level 1, and radial circular runout ≤0.03mm, which meets the requirements of the work. What's even better is that this process is suitable for large-scale production, which can greatly improve your production efficiency.
