Like high-frequency induction quenching, medium-frequency induction quenching can also improve the hardness, wear resistance and fatigue strength of the gear surface, and obtain a deeper hardened layer depth (generally 2-10mm). Medium frequency heating power supply is suitable for surface hardening of large and medium-sized gears (ring gears). In order to ensure the performance of the gear core, the gear needs to be tempered or normalized before quenching. The details of the medium frequency induction quenching process for single teeth of ring gears and racks used in large CNC machine tools (m=8-21mm) are as follows.
1. Sensor
Design and make a single-tooth inductor (such as m=8mm, m=10mm). The inductor is designed and made according to the involute line. The front-end water cooling part and the upper and lower water passage plates of the inductor are made of pure copper round bars, which are machined and It is processed into one piece according to the size of the gear module; in order to ensure the water flow, the water pipe at the tip of the sensor is a keyway type long water pipe to increase the water flow; the gap between the end of the sensor and the root of the gear is guaranteed to be in the minimum range of 1-1.5mm. The shape of the sensor is consistent with the shape of the rack teeth.
2. Medium frequency induction hardening process parameters (taking a large gear with a module of 10mm as an example)
Voltage/KV | Current/A | Power/KW | clearance from tooth root |
0.60 | 90 | 60 | 1-1.5 |
Many manufacturers use the above process to quench and heat treat gears. The hardness of the produced gears reaches 50-55HRC, and the service life is greatly improved, meeting the needs of the work. If you want to know more about the quenching process, please feel free to leave us a message.
