Generally, medium and small forgings use steel or medium and small billets as raw materials. Due to the small cross-section size of the billet, the steel ingot and steel have been plastically processed and have good structural properties. In forging production, the heating of steel and billets is usually carried out using medium frequency induction heating furnaces. The specific specifications are as follows:
(1) Carbon structural steel with a diameter less than 150mm and alloy structural steel with a diameter less than 100mm adopt one-stage heating specifications. Generally, the temperature is controlled at 1300℃-1350℃, and the temperature head reaches 100℃-150℃.
Automobile die forgings generally use carbon structural steel and low alloy structural steel (such as 45, 40Cr, 42CrMo, 20CrMnTiH, 20CrNiMo, 35MnVS, C70S6, etc.), with a diameter less than 150mm, so a one-stage heating specification is adopted.
(2) Carbon structural steel billets with a diameter of 150mm-200mm (carbon content greater than 0.45%-0.50%) and alloy steel billets (such as 35CrMoVA, 12CrNi3, etc.) adopt a three-stage heating specification, and the heating temperature is controlled at 1150℃- 1200℃, using the maximum heating speed, the steel billet needs to be kept warm after entering the furnace. In order to ensure uniform temperature on the cross section, it also needs to be kept warm after it is heated to the initial forging temperature. The holding time is 5%-10% of the entire heating time, and the temperature head reaches 100-150℃.
(3) For high-alloy steel billets with poor thermal conductivity and strong thermal sensitivity (such as high-chromium steel and high-speed steel), low-temperature heating is used. The heating temperature is 400℃-650℃. Generally, two-stage or three-stage heating is used depending on the size. specification.
In short, when determining the heating specifications of metal materials, the material characteristics, size and heating requirements should be fully considered, and the heating specifications of different metal materials should be determined based on these parameters. If you still don’t understand anything about the above specifications, you can read more books on heat treatment. I believe you will gain a lot.
