Gears are common parts on engines. We often use medium frequency induction heating machines for quenching heat treatment to improve their service life and wear resistance. However, during the heat treatment process, affected by the equipment's own factors and environmental factors, the gears will inevitably produce some defects. 1. Place cracks

Placement cracks are mainly caused by the complex shape of the parts and excessive quenching stress. Therefore, tempering heat treatment should be performed immediately after quenching with a medium frequency induction heating machine.

2. Quenching cracks

(1) The geometry of the part is complex. To address the causes of defects, we can only improve the sensor design and adjust the process parameters.

(2) Material reasons: The carbon content is greater than 0.5% or there are continuously distributed impurities in the material. Therefore, when purchasing raw materials, we must strictly control the steel composition and impurity content.

(3) The cooling rate is too high, we need to change the cooling method or cooling medium.

(4) Overheating. For overheating defects of the workpiece, we should anneal, normalize or high-temperature tempering before re-quenching.

3. Quenching deformation

(1) The original structure is uneven. Before quenching, we need to perform high-temperature tempering or annealing, normalizing and quenching and tempering on the workpiece.

(2) Heating and cooling are uneven. We need to improve the design of the sensor of the medium frequency induction heating machine and improve the heating and cooling conditions.

4. Low hardness

(1) If the cooling speed is slow or the cooling water volume is insufficient, we need to perform quenching cooling in time and properly control the cooling water volume and water pressure.

(2) The heating temperature is low. We need to increase the quenching heating temperature appropriately to ensure that the heating temperature meets the process requirements.

(3) Steel has low carbon content. When selecting raw materials, we must strictly control the carbon content of steel. Cast steel with a carbon mass fraction of less than 0.3% is not suitable for surface quenching.
