Large or special-shaped turning tools must be preheated twice, namely at 500~600℃ and 850~900℃. The materials should be fully dissolved as much as possible, but overheated and over-burned structures such as network carbides are not allowed to appear. The quenching heating time is 8-15s/mm.

2. Cooling and tempering of high-speed tool steel turning tools. The quenching cooling medium for high-speed tool steel turning tools is oil or compressed air. The oil temperature is controlled at 40~60℃. For complex shapes, the oil temperature is increased to 120~140℃. When the tool is cooled in oil to 300~100℃, air cooling is required . In order to prevent the turning tool from quenching and reducing deformation, a graded cooling method of 580 to 620°C can be used. For small sizes, it can be insulated in nitrate salt at 240 to 280°C for 1.5 to 2 hours, which can significantly reduce deformation and cracking, and then oil cooling or Cool in air. The high-temperature tempering should be carried out two or three times to improve the hardness and toughness of the turning tool. The tempering temperature is 540~590℃. The amount of retained austenite is reduced, the turning tool is secondary hardened, and the hardness of the turning tool is improved.
