Process analysis of heat treatment of chuck milling cutter using medium frequency induction heating machine

The "I" shaped milling cutter for processing the chuck is made of general-purpose high-speed steel, and the hardness requirements are 63-66HRC for the blade and 40-45HRC for the shank. We usually use a medium frequency induction heating machine to heat treat the chuck milling cutter, but the milling cutter always breaks at the connection between the diameter of 6mm and the diameter of 11.3mm. Chuck material is HT200, HT300 gray cast iron.

According to the analysis, according to the conventional quenching, the hardness and metallography can meet the technical standards, but the toughness is insufficient. For processing easy-cutting materials such as gray cast iron, the toughness is the first, and the wear resistance and thermohardness are the second. bits. We changed to low-temperature quenching, and it really worked. The specific process is to use a medium-frequency induction heating machine to perform preheating heat treatment at 850-860°C X 4min, then heat treatment at 1250-1260°C X 2min, and finally perform tempering heat treatment at 540-560°C X 1hX 3 times. After the above process, the hardness of the blade is 63.5-65.5HRC, and the hardness of 1/2 of the handle is 40-45HRC, which meets its working requirements.

The heat treatment process has a great influence on the quality of the workpiece. Therefore, we must be very careful and careful when performing heat treatment operations, so as to avoid unnecessary heat treatment defects and affect the quality of the workpiece.
